You can play Pokémon GO with GTA 5 mechanics by using the GTA 5 Pokemon Mod. In the city, Pokémon move about as regular non-playable characters (NPCs). Pokéballs, which are basically GTA baseballs with a different texture, are used to catch Pokémon. You can also use your fists to beat up other Pokémon in a manner reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto. The UI and items even bear similarities to those found in Pokémon GO.

It's also amusing how your own Pokémon appears to be a co-conspirator when it follows you about and even gets into your car after you steal it. The GTA manual save would benefit from the addition of an autosave feature as well.

Naturally, even though it makes an effort to mimic the original game as much as possible, it is far from flawless. In certain cases, visual glitches result in a strange hole appearing in the Pokémon's eyes. Furthermore, there are no custom animations in the game, such as leaves flying or pocket monsters blowing fire or water. Apart from that, it functions as a hybrid of Pokémon GO and Grand Theft Auto 5.

Still a GTA game

Before you forget, GTA 5 Pokemon Mod still retains a lot of original features like getting Wasted or Busted. Still, it manages to bring Pokémon GO into the game, re-texturing existing items and models to create the monsters, the items, and even the map locations similar to the original mobile game. Although it has its share of glitches and shortcomings, it’s still a great mod to add to your collection.
